Arts and Crafts.

Here are some fun links I came across… I can’t wait to experiment with them at some point:
(design made by Spoonflower user Natalie Jost)
Spoonflower: Print your own designs on to fabric! If you haven’t mastered the silkscreen but want to make your own printed fabrics, try out this site. They charge [...]

Picture Pages….

I just rediscovered this site FFFFound!.   I bookmarked it long ago and it got lost in the files.  For those who haven’t found (i hate puns) out about it yet, FFFFound! is an image bookmarking site where you can post your pictures, as well as get alerted to pictures that the computer recommends for [...]

Lina Peterson’s jewelry.

Lina Peterson makes these amazing brooches and rings.  I love her organic shapes, varied textures, & drippy skeletons,– which she makes by dipping the wire forms in some type of bright-colored liquid rubber.  Many of her designs include crocheted pieces and other metal materials.  She’s been award with [...]

How to: hand-carved stamps.

Lately I’ve been contemplating my etsy packaging and thinking of adding some extra decor via handcarved stamps.  It’d be a fun challenge for me to carve, and add a little something to my packaging.
I came across a lovely little blog by an etsy seller, Geninne, with lots of sweet crafty tips.

Sentimental portraits…

I’ve always loved Victorian hair jewelry.  I used to have an antique ring that my grandma picked up at an auction that had a lock of hair in it.  Yes, on some level it sounds disgusting wearing someone’s hair on your hand or around your neck…. but, the tradition is that a lock of a loved one’s [...]

Some of my Sartorialist favorites…

For artists who are always looking for new faces to draw, The Sartorialist is invaluable. From my computer I can find faces from manhattan, paris, new delhi, etc to inspire my drawings by visiting the site. My main staple for models is still magazines but The Sartorialist has something that the magazines severely [...]

Guest blogging at design sponge.

Check out Julia Rothman & SFGirlbyBay’s guest blogs on Design Sponge this week!
They share art-making techniques, some things that catch their eye, and great photos/art.
Julia Rothman writes one of my favorite art blogs BooksbyitsCover, & designs products for Urban Outfitters that you’ve probably, unknowingly, admired over the years:

SfGirlBybay is the alias of a girl who’s [...]

Printed/Patterned paper…

As of Saturday I became a huge fan of Chiyogami! This printed origami paper has a cult following.

As I revamp my etsy shop (which is currently on vacation), I’m looking to incorporate more printed papers into designs. This got me searching for printed paper. I consulted other etsyians and got the scoop [...]

Mel Kadel’s zine: Honey Pool

The first time I saw Mel Kadel’s work, it illustrated an ad in Nylon Magazine (maybe you’ve seen it too). I had no idea who she was, or that the little drawing of the girl with butterflies escaping from her belly was an artist’s signature style. I only knew that the drawing caught my [...]

Inventory: Markers

I find markers really useful for getting high color concentration into those little areas too small for pastels and to create some color pops on ink drawings. I’ve been trying out different types lately, deciding whats for keeps and whats not working out.

First, Chart-pak Ad Markers. I love [...]

Workspace

I love seeing other people’s workspaces and art studios. If you’re so inclined, there’s a flickr group dedicated to design boards, and it’s associated with a blog featuring artists interviews about their design boards. The art studio flickr group is also worth checking out.
