+The section of the NPR website, Climate Connections: Solutions, features amazing photography in an audio (photo) slideshow form. A couple weeks ago an article about climate change in the Andes Mountains of Peru was posted. The piece features a beautiful slideshow of the Andes community… the traditional clothing and views of the mountains are amazing. Andean Peru definitely has a place on my travel destination list. Also check for the Antartica slideshow for stark landscapes of sky and snow.
+Must see: The March issue of Vanity Fair was sublimely Hollywood themed. One of the nicest features was the painstaking photo recreation of Hitchcock’s 12 most famous film scenes with modern Hollywood faces, from Grant (recreated by actor Seth Rogen) fleeing an approaching plane in that cornfield of North by Northwest to the lesser known psycho-sexual profile Marnie (recreated with Naomi Watts).
There’s also a great slideshow of classic Hollywood lobby cards (small film promotionals with movie poster graphics)
and a corresponding article about Hollywood’s treasure trove of forgotten movie posters and lobby cards. And, they feature the opulent residence of Julian Schnabel
as well as a behind the scenes look at what might be my favorite movie ever, The Graduate.
And for the April issue? Years later, a reply to the infamous Vanity Fair article that proposed to explain why women can’t be funny.
+Need character name inspiration? Bad Baby Names by Michael Sherrod, a man who works for Ancestory.com, decided to research history for the most bizarre names of all… And yes, all these names were names of real people and some of the living worst-named were interviewed in the book, surprisingly most said they liked having a crazy name (I’m not sure that Ima Hooker got interviewed, though…). Sherrod appeared on the Today Show this morning to promote the book. The Highlights: Mary A. Killer (this person was a man), Ima Hooker, Roker Ono (a combo of Al Roker and Yoko Ono), Greed Sister Mancini, and Lust Garten. Of course my favorite names of all are the children of celebrities: Pilot Inspektor Lee (Jason Lee’s son) and Audio Science (who belongs to Shannyn Sossomon). I also came across a blog dedicated to reporting bad names.
+The bejeweled sweater talents of Leslie Hall receive recognition on NPR music. The baffling ‘cewebrity’ status that began with her sweater-clad music video, keeps her afloat in virtual space. This week there’s a feature piece about her upcoming disco-rap-dance song hybrids.
+In honor of Nylon’s London themed issue, NylonTV broadcasts Mods + Rockers, a video tribute to brit influences in music and fashion:
+Fecalface posted a new interview recently featuring Ben Woodward.
